Location: Pyramid Lake. Drive towards end of Pyramid Lake road from Jasper.
Distance from Jasper town site: Approx 15 km
The view: 180 degree + views to the south from the open shore and bench area of this island, with the rest of the sky visible from other nooks and crannies on the island.
Sky brightness range: 0.33-1.0 (dark skies)
Suitability for dark sky observing: ***** Some of the darkest skies near Jasper town site.
Ease of access: A quick drive up into the mountains and past Pyramid Lake resort allows visitors to park and walk 300-400 metres down a path and across a sturdy, well-maintained bridge to the island. Bridge is large enough to bring large astronomy gear in with relative ease.
Camping permitted: No. Nearest accommodation: Pyramid Lake Resort and Patricia Lake Bungalows (both May to October), <5 min drive from the site.
Facilities: Outhouse in parking lot.
Notes: A truly magical spot from which to wow visitors with the wonders of nature.
